On September 25, Kutaisi will host the XVII International Symposium, “Literature of Small Countries and the Challenges of the Modern Global World” as part of UNESCO Literature City initiatives.
The Shota Rustaveli Institute of Georgian Literature, the Georgian Comparative Literature Association (GCLA), and Tbilisi State University organize the symposium. Co-organizers include Akaki Tsereteli State University, Caucasus International University, and Kutaisi City Municipality.
This year’s XVII International Symposium on Modern Literary Studies is being held in a Georgian region for the first time. This follows Kutaisi’s recognition as a member of UNESCO’s Creative Cities Literature Network in 2023, marking it as one of Georgia’s key regional centers. Being granted this status offers Kutaisi a significant opportunity to build a new cultural identity rooted in its rich literary tradition.
Famous scholars from around the world, alongside their Georgian colleagues, will participate in the symposium. Among them is Professor Lucia Boldrini, President of the International Comparative Literature Association (ICLA).
The detailed program is available on the symposium’s website: https://conference.litinstituti.ge/ka/
