From 1 to 5 July 2024, the XVI Conference of UNESCO Creative Cities was held in Braga, Portugal, in which a delegation from Kutaisi together with representatives of 350 creative cities from more than 100 countries of the world participated.
The 2024 UCCN Annual Conference aims to focus on how the creativity of cities strengthens sustainable urban development and promotes cultural diversity. The Braga Conference is an important platform for developing municipal governance, investment initiatives, and intersectoral cooperation.
The delegates included city mayors, vice mayors, heads of the field of culture and creative industries, independent experts, representatives of large international organizations, and heads of cultural institutions.
During the conference, Kutaisi Mayor Ioseb Khakhaleishvili met with UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Culture Ernesto Ottone R., Mayor of Braga Ricardo Rio, Secretary General of Eurocities André Sobczak, Deputy Mayor of London Justine Simons, and Mayor of Iowa City Bruce Teague.
During the conference, the Mayor of Kutaisi participated in the UNESCO Creative Cities Mayors Forum, where the tools for strengthening the role of culture and creative industries for the sustainable development of cities were discussed.
